This is Fifth annual Central Michigan Amateur Radio club's ham fest, and again, I get to be the mascot. All five years and counting! Only this time, I have been asked to PLEASE bring some more fursuiters to the 2018 ham fest. It is an out door swap meet, and the ham radio operators are all a pretty fun, carefree bunch. Some like to make jokes, and some like to make dirty jokes - but all of them are a good bunch of people. ..unless you get into a bidding war for some radio equipment. Boy -o- boy... I was going to buy a ten foot tripod mount, but some other fellow came along and offered 25% less for the mount. So I piped up and over-bid his bid. Then, he got incredulous - the MASCOT overbidding like that. He asked if I was serious, and I said I had a $100 bill in my paw, and yes I was serious, if he wasn't going to pay $75 for the tripod, then I was. Then he grudgingly offered full price and bought it, grumbling something about stupid darned mutts ruining the place, that I ought to be muzzled & tied to a post somewhere... but he didn't seem to serious! In the end, I still went home with loot, and I bought a really nice new antenna for the HF tranceiver: Something that will cover 160 meters to 6 meters without needing a tuner. It's good for 2 kilowatts so I will be able to throw all kinds of RF at it without worrying about melting something.
