Nathan works as a grounds keeper for a local community college. He loves many things about his job, the satisfaction of a hard days work, gratification from turning a weed ridden flowerbed into something beautiful again, fixing things like irrigation with his bare paws, or cleaning up piles of leaves that obstruct sidewalks… and maybe showing off for some of the girls on campus.

Free from a desk and with the company of coworkers he likes, for the most part, the only thing Nathan doesn’t enjoy about his job is the pay. It is quite the challenge to provide for one’s family at a salary slightly above minimum wage. So this summer he enrolled in school, hoping to find a build a better future for his mate Brittany and the pups they’d like to have some day.

However Nathan was never that good of a student. He was more interested in playing sports or drinking with friends, content to scrape by with D’s and the occasional C all through high school. And now, many years later, Nathan has discovered his study habits haven’t improved but gotten rusty with age. With the end of the quarter approaching frighteningly quick, behind on assignments, and exhausted from trying to go to school and work full time Nathan is starting to panic a little! Coming home from class late one evening he flings himself down on the couch, ready to give up. But his faithful mate is at his side with a shot of encouragement.

“I’ve been here before Nathan.” She says rubbing his back. “As a professional procrastinator I'm confident we can get you caught back up. I know you are smarter than you give yourself credit for!”

Nathan gives her a weak smile, taking a moment to admire his mate. Just as sweet and affectionate as she is pretty!

“I know… four pages sounds like a lot.” She continues, checking the assignment sheet in her paw. “But trust me, when you get further on in your education you’ll be writing fifteen page papers, like they are nothing.”

Nathan wants to believe her, but he can’t shake the feeling she is just saying that.

“And!” Brittany says, looking him in the eye with a flirtatious smile. “I know that even if you won’t do it for yourself you’ll do it for me.”

“For us.” Nathan corrects her, finally dragging himself off the couch causing Brittany laugh and wrap her arms around him, causing Nathan’s chest to swell outwards and fill with pride.

“For us!” She agrees. “I’ll go brew some coffee and we’ll get started.”
