"Oh, come on, give me some credit. Look at them. The boy is going to have to be broken, and the girl's no good to me for at least a few years. I'm making an investment, here, and we both know it."
"Fine. Two thousand for both."

"I want you to listen very carefully."
"You don't need to wear those. You are free to do whatever you want."
"You can run away, right now, if that's what you want. I won't chase you, and I won't come looking for you, because I have no interest in keeping you. But with those brands and no papers, you will eventually be found and questioned. They will either kill you, or they will sell you back, and you will find yourself in the possession of someone much more cruel."
"Alternatively, you can come with me. We're going to a tavern where you will have a room to yourself. You will stay there for a few days while I take care of some business in town. You can come and go as you please. As soon as I leave you alone, you will have ample opportunity to run away."
"But if you wait a few days, until I've taken care of my errands, then we will see a lawyer, and we will legally emancipate the both of you. I will then hire mercenaries to escort you back home. If they hurt you, I will kill them, and I will make this very clear to them, up front."
"Do you understand?"
"Yes."
...
"What's your name?"
"Finn."
"I'm sorry, Finn."

"What do you mean? We're just... we're just gonna sleep while he dies?"
"Dies? What's going on? I don't understand."
"I've seen him fight. He's very good. But he's also trapped, alone, and there's not much we can do."
"Why can't you do more?"
"Are you saying... dad's going to die?"
"No... I mean... Look."
"When it was me, I didn't have a chance to say goodbye. Granted, I got lucky, and I suppose I didn't need it... but I didn't know that at the time."
"What I'm trying to say is that we can give you something I didn't have. When you talk to him, you should probably assume it's the last time you're going to see him."

You didn't kill their parents.
"Not theirs, sure, but I could have! I might as well have!"
You did something good.
"A fucking miserable pittance."
You saved those kids.
"Two fucking kids, and not even their parents. I've barely salvaged half a devastated family, and told them to their face I'm not gonna do shit while we watch their father die."
"How many Finns are out there because of me, huh? How many Lanas are on the street corner? How many Caras can't speak? How many Lockets go to bed and wish for once to see something else, anything else, instead of me?"
"This isn't enough. I can't go home like this."

You can't save everyone. It's a rule I live steadfast to. Some people can be saved, some people can't be saved. Other people don't deserve to be saved and then there's those that won't let you save them. Accepting this ruling, this law of nature, is the quickest way to absolution of the soul. You stop believing that you failed, that you're too weak or not good enough, and start understanding there's more to the world than heroes and villians. After all, if the world was to be so black and white, there would be no shadows for the real monsters hide.
We do what we can, be it for redemption, mercy or belief life is precious, and we move on. You're no good to anyone if your self-doubt becomes your noose.
If a hellspawn like me can see that, then surely "heroes" can too.
