I use paint tool sai.
1.
100x100
2.
Set the opacity to layer 1 to 20%
3.
Sketch with pixel "binary" or something softer.
4.
Very very slowly line your sketch on another layer.
5. Color.
6. I shade with the blender
And for transparent bg
Make a layer under later one HIDE that layer
Save as png 32bpp
To use as fa icon the png MUST be converted to gif for transparency
