it's actually not a species change, i just really like the idea with the darker parts on legs and arms, since aleks also always wears their gloves it also makes sense to make it to a marking i guess?xD

I like that idea. I mean changing your fursona is pretty normal cause you find things that maybe fitting better or you change something in your lifestyle and you want to get that reflected in you sona. So I think you´ve done a good step in your design. Furthermore opossum are at least so cute as rats ;D So Aleks is now double cute xD
