I love those critters! :D You should draw one with a sabretooth hind-end and make a prehistoric flightless gryphon! :D

Magnificent detail! Did you use two different pencil-leads between foreground and background? Wonderful sense of depth!

Yes: pencils from H to 6B. It's been scanned quite dark.
Not easy for me: I see without relief.
