I think it's more a thing that Digimon was a bit more philosophically intensive than most shows, and actually got closer to the core of the meaning of virtue magic and being virtuous in general, rather than using it as a hand-wave it was something Digimon main characters took time to analyze. The reason I mention this is that even if the buildings in Japan (though it would have been Okaido and Odaiba, the towns where that season of Digimon took place, not Tokyo) that Digimon like Exveemon (or more so Imperialdramon, a power fusion with Exveemon as an input creature, whose standard) post-fusion showcase animation is him leveling a city into bare ground) damaged greatly in their fights, had already been evacuated, the main characters, especially the Digidestined kids, would have still probably discussed quite a bit the moral issues of damaging buildings and property in general. They handled it more carefully than most, though Tamers even more than other seasons.
All that to say, I think Exveemon and co. are shown damaging buildings more often because special attention was given to that occurance in the show, if indeed that is shown more often. Though I haven't seen it so much myself. I do seen buff pics pretty often for him though, especially gym ones. (And I love those, so I've probably looked at a disproportionate number of them, heh)
