It looks strange, yes, almost like one of these large-jawed borers is about to chomp down on the middle of his partner's back--but this is basically a prelude to making more beetles. <w<;
Beetles of many species are very social and involved in the courting, mating, and baby-rearing stages. Many beetles are among the few animals that habitually display bi-parental care of young (alongside creatures like humans ourselves, social canines, nearly all birds, and a few others), something which is really cool and rare and severely underappreciated.
XD But for right now, the beetles be about to hump.
