Exi is cursed with an eternal hunger. Fear is the most delectable dish he can find, filling and tasty. Pain is too much like candy, all sugar and no substance. Anger is too sour, filling but unpleasant. As a being of negative energy, positive emotions are too painful to consume. Fear is the nice middle-ground he has found and is often in ample supply.
