I wanted to try doing something different than what I'm used to for a change, to loosen my hand and give it a more painterly look. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with it or not, but it won't be my last, so I'll keep practicing this style occasionally :)

Now for the big question: Who is this lion?
Well, I based this drawing on a mysterious character that seems to only be found in the The Lion Guard game app for iOS, in the form of one of Rafiki's paintings. To find him in the game, you simply scroll to the right in the main menu (where you see all the characters in the Guard's Lair) and you'll see the same painting depicting the backstory of Scar's Guard that appeared in The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar. Only this time, the painting includes a lion with a brown pelt and a mane made of white clouds:

It appears that this lion was actually cut off from TLG:RotR, if you see the painting in the movie before Rafiki makes it move magically with his stick, you can faintly notice the lower tip of the lion's cloud-mane:

That's the only proof I could find that he was in the original painting, after Rafiki moves the painting magically he's nowhere to be found anymore, but I'm positive that he was intended to be there from the beginning, then it was removed and left forgotten in the iOS game.
So who is this guy? And why was he cut from the film? The obvious answer would be that he's Mufasa's ghost, but... remember this is a painting of Mufasa and Scar's backstory, Simba wasn't even born yet! Besides, he doesn't exactly look like Mufasa, the colors just don't match, and in the painting he's appearing right above a living Mufasa anyway. So no, I don't think he's Mufasa.
Perhaps they originally intended to include Mufasa and Scar's father in the narrative somehow, or maybe it was their way of saying there are Great Kings of the Past watching all over the Pridelands... but really, who knows? O_o
