The base part is a Leather fronted, clothe backed sandwich of Metal Rings, held in a diamond stitched pocket and secured with a brass or bronze rivet. it gives fairly solid protection, while allowing flexibility. The metal quality of the rings is not very good, so even if they shatter, the pieces are kept in the pocket, and still provide some protection. Iron/ steel are for high stress areas, and the rest is bronze.
I miss hearing those heavy claws on the bare wood floor, then scrambling after a located rodent intruder. He learned real quick how to body surf down the stairs to the main floor to patrol there. In winter, it was far more common to catch him in bed with us, wedged between us. We later got him his own dog bed with a small heating pad under it.
