Description: "Each year, Susie looked forward to the summer vacations. Out on the open road, where she could let herself go. It was nice to get away from the roaring traffic and just relax."
Artist Description: So a few years ago, I stumbled upon something I didn't think I ever find; The original storyboards for Susie The Blue Coupe. Turns out there was a whole segment that was cut showcasing Susie at her prime enjoying camping out in the woods. There's a certain charm about going camping with cars around that time period, some of which I experienced with the few VW camping trips Ive been involved in; As such, the fact that this segment was cut was a bit sad to me. It was only recently that I decided I wanted to draw and color one of these scenes from said storyboard. If I could somehow animate the whole thing, I would.
If you're curious about these storyboards, they can be found here: http://www.michaelspornanimation.com/splog/?p=1382
As for the drawing itself, I still think my backgrounds aren't too sharp, but I got my own style when it comes to Susie anyway, and in that regard, I feel like I got her down fairly well.
I think this encourages me more to try to dive into digital coloring a lot more now than before, though.

Lol I could totally hear Pooh Bear's voice speaking that description in my head. XD
This deserves more attention, it's very well drawn and we should see more of sweet ol' Susie. She spends SO much of the cartoon miserable (lol kinda like Pinky actually) that it's nice to see more of her happy.
I love the way that even though she's being driven so someone else can fish, it looks like SHE'S going fishing.. very much in the style of the cartoon. <3
While not an exact match, I always thought Susie was probably meant to be a 1950-51 Studebaker. It's got the same odd shaped hood. http://www.cars-on-line.com/photo/7.....ude76903-3.jpg

Considering the description is basically taken from the storyboards this scene was inspired by, I'm not surprised it could be read in Sterling Holloway's voice so easily XD
The Susie short is probably THE cartoon that ended up inspiring my love for classic cars, but at the same time I also got a greater sense of importance of taking care of said vehicles because of her story. Funny enough Jon Lassenter said this short was also his inspiration for Pixar's Cars so it's good to see even people like him get inspiration from this.
And that's actually a pretty good match. I could've sworn I saw an interview somewhere on the net with one of the people behind the short saying it was based on another model but I can't recall for the life of me which one it is. When you think about it, most of the vehicles in the late 40s had a similar chubby-but-pointy-nose look to them, so I think they just wanted to go for the same thing with Susie but make her more chibified and adorable.
And thanks for the props on the drawing! ^ ^
