The ideas behind religion are fine and everything as for the good will to others and such, but they always turn around call separate groups and discriminate. Its fine to hope for a nice happy after-life but simply by existing you earn the right to such a thing and should never have to prove you're "holier than thou".
As for the depression part, you're responsible for yourself so you can't blame anyone but you for feeling sad, and its not even that you should blame yourself, just take charge and see that anger and saddness are such negative emotions. You should never let someone else's opinion hold sway over you.
