Backstory:

A sassy young woman who played it unusually cool in hot situations, Setsuko loved to challenge herself with difficult tasks, especially those involving other people. She tolerated working alongside others, but relished any opportunity to compete and prove herself better than her peers. As she grew up, she heard about her father’s connections with Vybrylon’s top general, An Senbu. Motivated by her father and An Senbu, she eagerly enlisted in the Vybrylon army, believing it to be the best field to really push her to her limits.

She was defeated though – one of the few times in her life – when she signed up for Vybrylon’s trooper division only to be declined due to her “selfish” tendencies. But she wouldn’t have it. She was going to get where she wanted one way or the other. Vybrylon may not have accepted her now, but they would later. She just needed to become better, stronger, more experienced! Her resolve tested, but unbroken, she signed on with Reath’s military force.

Pressing through training and navigating all the hurdles it threw at her, Setsuko’s confidence grew, especially as she conquered short-range obstacle courses and equipment and arms usage. But the long hours in rugged terrain and the more physically intense assignments were becoming more and more taxing on her as the months went by. While she was proud of her accomplishments, she felt her shortfalls had cost her too much, and her over-competitiveness had landed her in hot water with her superiors one too many times. She wanted to succeed, but doubts clouded her mind; something her father taught her during her childhood to never allow. But with all the stress she was going through with training and now these incompetencies of hers, she was starting to lose sight of what her future held in store.

Then Vybrylon stepped into the scene. Having heard of Setsuko’s desire to serve the corporation’s interests, General An Senbu dispatched officers to the Reathian training camp to retrieve her. The Reathian officers understood that this was very much against protocol for the General to show “favouritism” in a soldier, nevermind a trainee, but there was nothing they could do when Vybrylon was involved.

Recognizing Setsuko for her notable strengths and her weaknesses, General Senbu offered the young woman a deal, one which she agreed to after a moment of contemplation. Three years would pass after this agreement, to which Setsuko finished her training as an agent of Vybrylon. Such a position was tailored just for her and her talents, while challenging her more than she could have imagined. But unlike her training in the Reathian military, this was just for her. And now, she was ready to fulfill her part of the agreement.

During those years, Vybrylon’s top bio-research scientist, Dr. Josef Pyedic, had watched and studied how the Kaerenki woman excelled at her training. And from the data he collected, the cunning scientist devised the perfect plan for Setsuko. When her training was finished, she was brought to him to discuss that very plan. Excitement and anxiety was written on her face in anticipation for what the Doctor had in mind for her. She had met with him a few times during her training and took a liking to his work toward the betterment of humanity. But knowing what some of his work entailed, she was still nervous about giving in to this part of the deal. But she knew it was for the best. At least for her.

A year after her recovery from the procedure, Setsuko was now part of a much larger plan Vybrylon had in mind for the world, and was glad to be a part of it. She was now equipped with a prehensile tongue to fling her toxic saliva at her foes, and her toes similarly as prehensile in their own manner. She was a living bio-weapon, trained in blending in with the crowd or appearing as someone with good intentions, making full use of her social abilities to disguise her true goals. She often worked close together with Dr. Pyedic, acquiring biological serums for her to use against her targets to deliver a clear message. That Vybrylon will not be trifled with, and that nothing will stand in her way to become the best.

After sitting as a sketch in my sketchbook since last summer, I thought it was about time I started finishing and writing up bios, and eventually stories, for the top members and executives of Vybrylon. Starting with the last one I actually drew was the one of the assassins who was/is/might appear in Nora's story, as one of the agents sent to "retrieve" her. However, she has received numerous changes since her original sketching - she used to appear more like a female Team Fortress 2 sniper. Now she's a frog gal, ha ha. Quite a change, eh?

Also, came up with a name for my frog people! Whom, this is actually the first one we've seen I believe! I'm about 90% set on it: Kaerenki. Inspired by the Japanese words for "frog", "nature", and "patience." Well, some more than others, but hey, it's still an original name in the end.
