"Beatrice" originally built as a 2-4-4 in 1910 by H.K. Porter for a plantation company in Louisiana. After a number of private owners the locomotive ended up in the hands of Gaylord Industries and became part of the railroad operating around the Opryland theme park in Nashville, Tennessee. In the 1970's the park did an in house conversion from steam to a diesel outline removing the rear fuel bunker and adding a tender containing a diesel engine.
Opryland closed in 1997 after which "Beatrice" bounced around several Six Flags properties around the country until eventually going into cold storage at the Six Flags America park in Maryland. This year Six Flags donated the engine to the Kirby Family Farm in Williston, Florida which operates a 1.5 mile long railroad as part of a 501-3c operation there. The hope is to have the engine operational again by the end of the year.
