If you have a general idea how long you want it to be, start at the horizon with a much smaller size and as you work up, gradually increase the brush size, always using sweeping motions. That's how I do it.
Then slap on a layer over all the ink work to get the bent grass to look lik they're actually -on it- and not floating there. x_X
