xavier´s name has different origins:

Since first it was just the mascot for a Jesuit school, I used the name of my favorite Jesuit saint, Saint Francisco Xavier, because he was a very skilled polyglot, an ability I always admired and try to hone; the real life Xavier was born in Navarre so his mother tongue was Euskera, but when he was 9 it was taken over by Castile, so he had to learn Spanish (Castilian). He went to study in Paris (learned French to do so) and in the Sorbonne (had to learn Latin to get in there). After the founding of the Societas Iesu, he went with a Portuguese expedition (had to learn Portuguese) to go on a missionary trip to India (where he learned Tamil). After that, he also went to Japan and learned Japanese, and actually gave the first guidebook about Japanese language to the West, by identifying the differences between kanas and kanji. Finally, before dying in the Sanchong island off the coast of Guangdong, he had started to learn Cantonese.

Alph comes partly from my real life name (shortened to Alf), and partly from Alpha, a kind of wolf hierarchy.

Lang is the Chinese word for Wolf, too.

Finally, Vÿftiendriekwaart is an old Flemish way of saying "Fifteen and Three Quarters" the number on the back of Xavier´s sport shirt, because 1534 was the year in which the Societas Iesu was founded, but it was too long to put four numbers in the shirt´s back, so I shortened it to 15 3/4 so it fit (And it reminds me of Platform 9 3/4).
