I drew and painted this just in tie for the American Independence Day holiday. It took me about three grueling hours to paint after drawing the eagle guy, which included trying to get the coloring right. But it was worth it. I found out that in painting, if you mix cadmium yellow with slightly smaller amounts of red and black, you get a shade of brown that is neither too dark nor too light.
Anyway, Happy July 4th to any of my fellow American furs. Enjoy the fireworks and the big muscular American bald eagle flexing his big biceps.

We have patron saints' days, like St George's on April 23rd and St Andrew's on November 30th, but none of them match the grandiloquence of July 4th! It's time we did, I feel. 8 days from now, France will have its big Fete Nationale, but they too will have bigger festivities than us.
