fala one is for this round of the realmailxchange the other is because I decided to adopt her from the previous round when she didn't get her stuff.
I've been working on since day one and finally got to finish up today since weather cooperated. I've been utilizing my ceramics class because... glazed stuff will do really well in a garden so she can use these outside and not have to worry about them too much.
One is a tile that announces the garden belongs to you; second is a feral Fala with cute wings(though I couldn't use my Jedi powers to make them float behind like the ref says they do). Both are made with dover cone 6(maybe 7) white ceramics clay and raku fired with white crackle glaze. The darkening at the wing tips and ear tips wasn't intentional and I could scrub it off. I actually like how it looks with the darker spots so I will try to find a good sealant to preserve that effect; especially since most the darkening happened to occur where her fursona has darker spots).
This was my first attempt at raku firing(which is basically firing glazed items in a giant trash can).

Yea realmailxchange is on LJ. I'm currently the person running it while the owner is... elsewhere taking care of life.

I do it at school so I don't have to worry about much beyond building things with clay, covering it with a glaze from the glazeroom and sticking it in a Raku kiln.
This site looks pretty informative though. http://www.ceramicstoday.com/articl.....nfman_raku.htm
The glaze both these had brushed on before the raku fire is called white crackle

Woohoo raku! I actually really like the effect of the darkening at the points as well. I really love the sculpture... do you have pictures of it from different angles? You got a REALLY nice crackle pattern on the sculpture. Wow! White crackle is definitely my favorite raku glaze.
One thing you might want to warn your xchange partner is that mid-range fire raku isn't watertight, so she should bring it in during cold weather. Like terracotta, freeze-unfreeze cycles can cause shattering, from tiny amounts of moisture freezing inside the clay and expanding.
