Ah, this was my very first Godzilla movie, which I got to see on a VHS copy I got for Christmas 1997, naturally under the Cosmic Monster moniker. Ever since, it's been one of my favorites, as well as featuring my personal favorite Showa-era Godzilla design. Obviously, it forever cemented the foundation of me being the kaiju enthusiast I am today. :)
For this piece, I decided to try experimenting with the shading by using the airbrush tool (in GIMP, mind you), mostly because I would still be on MechaGodzilla if I were using the ink tool like I usually do (though there are some accented areas where I used it). It was a bit relaxing to loosen up a bit in doing so, and it never hurt to try new things.
For the shading itself, Godzilla was shaded with blue, since he has blue atomic breath; MechaGodzilla was shaded with red, since he had a red energy beam (well, when he was in disguise), and King Caesar was shaded with an orange/yellow to make him seem a bit more "golden". Anguirus was done with blue (since he's Godzilla's pal), and the shisa statue was done with a dark gray. Also, Godzilla and MechaGodzilla have drop-shadows, red and blue respectively, in reference to their names in the Japanese text in the title sequence.
Anywho, this will be available at G-Fest XXIV, which is just around the corner!

I so wish I could go to G-Fest!!! :( Unfortunately, I don't have enough money for a plane ticket and a hotel room. Even if I did, I'd still need a couple thousand dollars to buy Godzilla stuff at the convention.
On the topic of MechaGodzilla, which incarnation of him is your favorite; Showa, Hensei, or Millenium? Me personally, I like the Showa MechaGodzilla not only for his design (which I think is AWESOME) but because he's the only one who's been controlled by aliens; the others have been controlled by people trying to stop Godzilla (although the Millenium one going berserk from being built around the original Godzilla was pretty cool) and because he was first in disguise as Godzilla, wearing fake Godzilla skin Terminator-style.
Another MechaGodzilla question, if they ever bring back MechaGodzilla, should they use a completely new design or one of the previous incarnations? If so, which incarnation?

Favorite? This one. ;) Though that's not to say I hate the other ones. I love the streamlined appearance of the '93 version, and Kiryu has a very organic and flexible design (appropriate, given that it's design includes a Godzilla skeleton).
As far as new incarnations go, definitely a new design. One thing I've really liked about Godzilla himself is that his designs are very befitting in any media he's in; e.g. I can't see the 1962 Godzilla being in GODZILLA VS GIGAN because it looks too mean for the role. MechaGodzilla (and just about every other monster) is the same way.
I'm personally hoping for another shot at a villainous MechaGodzilla. Maybe some sentient techno-organism "mutates" into a Godzilla-like form or something. I've envisioned an alternate version of the '93 version being a cyberpunk-style film (akin to GUNHED), where a supercomputer constructs and implants itself into MechaGodzilla. Or just go classic - an alien weapon armed to the teeth, with an appearance that evokes the darker days when Godzilla was seen as a menace.

I could see a movie where there's two Godzillas, one of them is evil. Aleins comes and they infect the evil ne, making him assimilate into a MechaGodzilla (kind of like what Skynet did to John Connor in Terminator Genisys) who they than control and try to kill Godzilla.
