I imagined that while in stasis, which is a process of slowing down your molecules to near stop using zero point energy, there's a chance that anything you wear will be accidentally merged with your body's molecules when you come out of stasis. There are some special clothing that are highly resistant to this effect, but even so it should only be worn as sparingly as possible.

The crotch pastie also minimizes the amount of material in the way of a medical scanner or visual checks of injury. That might've been the justification for making most of a pilot Suit transperant in Evangiloin Neon Genisi, the red female one.

Hmm.. I also imagine stasis requires a strong scanner with nothing in the way l, because the molecules are in a different state. Or perhaps the zero point energy interferes with it enough. Or normal fabric in stasis also interferes with bio scans.
