It took me a while to realize that the shapes in the corners are supposed to be her friends. That creates an absolutely creepy tone to this image. The fact that she's surrounded by the geometric forms of her friends gives off a sense of feeling trapped or helpless. To put it simply, it's basically like: Hey, here are your friends who care about you. Go have fun with them. NOPE! All you see are neutral shapes.
hehe, yeah, I was unsure if the friends' shapes would be noticeable, but I feel somewhat that the relative subtlety might everything more unsettling. Yes, I certainly felt creeped out working on the picture because of them, and I'm glad that this picture is able to create some moods.
And that last statement you said made me think what it must have been like for Mae during the game, I mean, I never really thought about the fact that when she's talking to Greg or Bea or the others that she's just seeing a mass of shapes standing/sitting and talking back to her, talk about disturbing.
