A small story I wrote for
Lemonynade I hope you find it enjoyable! It's a little peek into the life that is Minnow!
____
The sun was high in the clear skies of Seren’this. The inn was booming as always with adventurers of all kinds. Kobolds, Drakes, Wolves and other such beasts. Minnow, adoptive son to the inn keep Lannister, was wandering around after he had just come back from a particularly simple quest that paid well enough for a few of his favorite sugary treats. He was down to his last lollipop and moved it around his maw playfully trying to ensure that it lasted long enough to sate him.
He was wandering around the Inn humming a tune; paws clenched firmly behind his head. He was watching all of the adventurers and his ears perked around, listening to all the conversations. Sometimes it was just easier to hear about someone’s spoils rather than gaining some of his own. He didn’t recognize many of the faces but he almost never did. There was one in particular Drake that often frequented his father’s establishment but he hadn’t been around for a while. Undoubtedly, on some quest for sure. He often spoke to that one.
He was walking by a table where a very large green drake sat, adorned in black armor that could give the dark itself a run for its money. Minnow noticed him because of the creaking in the chair he sat, where the legs looked like they were crying for relief. Any more weight and it would surely break. His massive scaled tail took up most of the space around him and the sword he carried on his back was covered in so many jewels, it was a wonder if it was a sword at all.
His scarred face told all who looked on it that he tussled with a few beasties in his day. What could such a drake be doing in a small farming town, Minnow thought. The fiendish dragon began to circle the table; leaving himself unnoticed.
“Ehy, I tracked tha’ bastard eha to dis mountain range. Lottsa trouble it was worth it was! Butz I slain et an’ now me pouch is too ‘avy ta carry! Har har har har!” The massive individual chuckled and the table shook. Minnow’s thoughts were on the chair beneath him however, musing to himself.
“To heavy to carry hmm?” Minnow clutched his chin with a thought, removing the stick of the lollipop and tossing it behind him into a garbage bin. Growing up here had its benefits, knowing where the garbage was at any given time often led to him entertaining himself with such tricks.
The white dragon moved a bit closer, using the drake’s girth as a way to examine him a bit more closely. He noticed the hefty bag around the male’s side and Minnow smiled, “Gotcha, Mr. Too Heavy.” Minnow looked up and moved around the table, he’d have to pick his chance wisely.
“So, I’m buyin’ rounds fo’ us all! Ha ha ha ha!” The man announced and the table of his fellow adventurers cheered.
“Mind if I join in on the festivities?” Minnow asked waving as the massive bloke took in Minnow’s far smaller frame.
“Wuts this ‘ea? Someone lose theyah kid? Well aren’t you the cutest little thing?” Minnow smiled wide at the compliment.
“Yes, well I am not a child you see. I am just not as big as most adults. I appreciate the compliment though.” Minnow saluted.
“I overheard you talking about some kind of monster? I’m an adventurer to, and I’d love to hear about how you did.”
The men at the table all looked around and then simultaneously began to laugh in unison, “Ain’t he a riot? Such a cute little thing he is!” The large reptile mocked Minnow, which earned him a scornful look from the little dragon.
“Ya best stay ta small things like deliverin mail oah sumthin’! Now why don’cha go and fetch us some rounds yea?” The reptile’s filled gut jiggled with his hearty laughs. He turned back to the rest of the table, “Now….whea was I?”
Minnow glared as he moved his way towards the bar where his adoptive father was cleaning out a glass. He hopped onto a stool and rotated around to face Lannister.
“You got that look in your eye again Minny.” Minnow looked up at his father, “No idea what you mean,” Minnow said with a wide grin. Lannister eyed Minnow with an arched brow, “Uh huh.”
Minnow chuckled at his father’s suspicious attitude, “Anyway the big guy making all the noise is asking for a few rounds for all his friends. We may also want to think about replacing his chair. I have a feeling it won’t last the night.”
Lannister shook his head and let out a sigh, “Do not do anything stupid Minnow.” After a moment, Lannister had an entire tray filled with mugs of the finest beer he had. Minnow, using both paws, carried them back over to the nosiest table in the bar.
“And dats ‘ow I slayed da bastard! Ha ha ha ha ha!” The larger patron looked down as Minnow approached, “Good on ya mate!”
Minnow slid the tray onto the table, using his tippy toes due to his size. Though he made sure to place it away from the big brute adventurer.
“There you are boys. One round delivered promptly as told,” Minnow said giving a single clap of his paws.
He made his way around the big guy as his drooling, gluttonous maw reached out over the table to grab a couple of mugs filled to the brim. Minnow inspected the chair, avoiding the tail swings of his prey. Minnow took his dagger and gently tapped the already bent legs, making a small nick in its foundation.
“Ah these will do wonderfully!” The adventurer said and took his seat once more; only the damaged chair could no longer sustain his massive frame and the legs shattered under the weight. The adventurer let out a yell of fright as he fell over on his back with a mighty thud, spilling his alcohol all over himself.
Minnow watched the events unfold, never taking his eyes off the adventurer’s heavy purse and the noise it made hitting the floor. The others at the table had a good laugh at their friend, nearly falling over themselves. The coin purse burst and the shining gold coins scattered rolling every which way. The other patrons practically trampled themselves trying to nab the coins as they spilled across the floor. Three of the gold coins rolled towards Minnow and the small fairy dragon with a smirk and a glance placed his feet over the gold and hid them away under his paw.
The fallen adventurer, embarrassed and angry sat up and looked around with a snarl, “Oi! You all best’en shut ya traps o’ I slay tha lot a ya!” It wasn’t until he reached for his purse that he discovered his gold had spilled. A face of dread overcame him and the large male turned and began gathering all the coins. He stood and took the sword from his back and slammed the over glimmered blade into the tavern floor. “You grubbing bastards betta gimme back all me coin o’ I will give this hea tavern a new coat o red I will!” The giant snarled. The other adventurers all nervously smiled, and dropped the gold they had picked up. “Das mo’ like it. Shotty tavern with its shotty chaah” The brute was about to bend down to pick up the dropped coin when he heard a snicker. The drake turned around to look at Minnow and glared at him.
“What ah you laughin’ at eh?” Minnow’s ears dropped back and he looked left and right and then pointed to himself. The drake snarled and turned hunkering toward him. Lannister, watching from his bar, became instantly aware and scoffed. “Damn it Minny.” He placed down the mug he was cleaning and began to undo his apron.
“You playin’ dumb wit me ya pint sized hairball? Why did ya laugh?” Minnow gave a nervous laugh.
“I just find it funny that you blame our chairs when it was clearly all that food and beer that did you in is all. I mean, I don’t see anyone else complaining so…” Minnow answered with a small grin.
This of course, did not sit well with the towering figure. He bared his impressively stained teeth and snarled and opened his hand readying it to grab Minnow but before he could lay a finger on the much smaller fluff dragon, Lannister reached for the drake’s wrist and wrapped his arm around his back, locking it in place. The adventurer let out a yell and grimaced as he felt like his bone would break from being bent in such a way. Lannister slammed the brute into the wall and pinned him.
“Now listen here you, I don’t give a damn who you think you might be or what it is you think you’ve done but this is a fine establishment for honest folk to come and relax and maybe enjoy a drink or two. Now, I’ve ignored your banter and your crude speech but what I will certainly not ignore is if you lay a single hand on my son understand? You like hunting? Don’t ya?”
The adventurer for the first time looked scared despite his still overwhelming size in comparison to Lannister. He nodded his head.
“That’s what I thought, so, if you want to keep doing what you like, you best get the hell out of my establishment while you still have a hand to swing that poor excuse for a sword.” Lannister, with an impressive display of strength, tossed the massive, drunk drake out of the front door. The drake landed belly first with a thud, followed by his sword and coin purse.
“And you’re paying for my broken chair and door!” Lannister called out before closing what was left of the door. The other patrons all looked surprised and Lannister looked them over, “Any other troublemakers?” He asked. The silent room shook their heads and went back to their business.
“Wow dad, that was uh, amazing!” Minnow exclaimed but immediately backed down with his ears folding back when Lannister gave him an all too familiar glare. “Don’t wow dad me, now get your arse in the kitchen. You’re working until I can see your boney fingers got it Minny?”
Minnow dropped his head, looking somber from being scolded. Immediately after he felt the hand of Lannister pat the top of his head and saw him smile before walking back towards the bar. Minnow returned the smile and looked back towards the door to see the once proud adventurer hobbling away with his things.
He tossed the three gold coins in the air and snatched them quickly mid-air. He turned and began to head towards the kitchen as instructed. Minnow would be able to pay his favorite vender a visit again real soon.

I've been curious about Minnow ever since I first saw commissions of him. While they did give some basic info as to his personality, it is really nice to see him in written form!
He sure is very clever and cheeky in more ways than one, but that drake definitely had it coming. The fact that Minnow became quite agitated at being mocked for his size when he was simply curious to listen to the other adventurer's story points at the likely possibility that he probably deals with these sorts of prejudices a lot and, as a result, probably isn't the type to judge others based solely on first impressions of any sort.
I hope to get to see more of him soon, preferably with the Cuteseekers maybe? :)
