An unusual member of Protoceratidae, a family of extinct North American herbivores; they looked like deer and antelope, but were more closely related to camels. The males had long, sharp canines and horns in the usual place, but also over their noses. Front legs had four hoofed toes, yet the back legs - which were carried lower than the rest of the body - had more modern two-toed hooves.
This fellow is Synthetoceras tricornatus, the last and largest of his family (6-7 feet long).
