I'm trying to get back into sculpture stuff since I wanna do cake decorating when I'm a SAH mom, as well as during the summers off from work. :) I'd love to make figures and designs with fondant, which works a lot like sculpey. So, I figured I could use sculpey as a practice medium.
My pal's comic character, Jack, is the first victim of this venture. I had a lot of fun making him and he gave me a good idea for how I want to do future sculptures, and ways to improve on making certain features so they don't look as lumpy as poor Jack does. I was going for a spoof of those obnoxiously cute cherished teddies figurines, hence the name. He's pretty tiny, so I didn't use any armature inside. I need to research whether or not armature is used with fondant but I'm hedging my bets that it most likely isn't. ;)
He still needs baked.. but guess what! He glows in the dark! :)

He did come out looking kind of cute.
If you're working with SculpeyIII or Premo it's kind of a pain to really sculpt with. It's pretty floopy and when I've used glow-in-the-dark it's super sticky. Not as bad as Granitex or translucent but pretty sticky. Super Sculpey is much nicer to sculpt with. It stands up better without a big armature and you can cut it with a sharp blade without it smooshing much. It is a little harder to condition though.
But is it more like fondant or less? I've seen flat sheets of fontant standing up pretty well on Food Network so I'm guessing it can have a stiffer consistency than regular Sculpey.
