Captain Sale and the Book of Halfworld
This was a take-home commission from Anthrocon last year of a bit-part character from the Skottie Young helmed Rocket Raccoon comic series: Captain Sale.
Most people know of Rocket Raccoon from the movies and the modern incarnation of Rocket's appearances in comics where he's been the subject of genetic alteration and has a confused mess of memories about his origin, but it wasn't always that way. In the Skottie Young stories Rocket knows that he's from a place called Halfworld and is in search of the lost book that is supposed to provide the answers. It turns out that there's another character in the universe who shares a similar quest: Captain Sale. The two of them butt heads in this quest and answers of a sort are provided but in a roundabout way that satisfies but has an even better meta-reaction if you've read the original comics that Rocket appeared in. I won't spoil anything but it dawned on me that this "Lost book of Halfworld" is in fact the Marvel graphic novel collection of Rocket's original printed storyline, and that's just deliciously fun to consider.
Anyhow, the request for this picture was to show Captain Sale going over this book herself in an attempt to learn the truth of their shared past.
By the way... I love Copic markers.

Really wish they'd bring her back. To have such an iconic character who though he was the only one of his kind, only to find a female of the same species to prove that thought wrong, to only appear twice and never be seen again (so far) is just a kick in the teeth for me.
I thought being how she's practically the spirit image of Rocket, only a little taller tougher and female, meant Scottie was going to go in some direction with that but never did.

It would be nice to see her again, yes! I actually met Skottie Young last weekend at the Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC and I wanted to ask him how much leeway he had in creating that storyline and character and whether it was likely that the character (who exists mainly to serve a plot point) might have a future beyond this particular story. Alas, he was one of the featured guests at the convention and there was quite a line to see him and I was only able to spend as much time talking with him as it took for him to sign the few books of his that I'd brought with me. Good conversation, but nothing at all discussed about the character, his writing, his experience drawing those stories, or really much of anything beyond an expressed appreciation for his drawing and inking style which has been a big obsession with me recently.
Having said that though, if I were to speculate I'd say that Captain Sale really is nothing more than a plot point for the existing storyline, albeit one with unique potential for exploration in the future should someone want to expand on it. However while Sale is a raccoon and thus uniquely relevant to Rocket, Rocket has a previous romantic relationship with Lylla who appeared alongside him in the bulk of his previous stories and I personally expect it's much more likely that she'd show up again rather than Sale. In fact she already makes an appearance in the just-released Guardians of the Galaxy video game adventure series from TellTale games.
Still though, I agree with you. So long as Rocket's personal identification hinges greatly on his being a unique creature in the universe I will forever be curious to see whether Captain Sale has the potential to be reintroduced.

Aw man! I started to read and got anticipation for a full frontal answer from the guy who created her and BAM it turns out it was too heck-tic to get said answer.
Now it's like my brain's got blue balls.
Anyway you do make a valid point. But I would really like to see her return not just because I like her, but most because Rocket Raccoon has become a strong Marvel icon these past years. And as I stated previously he wanted to know if he was the only one of his kind as I'm sure most of his fans wanted to know as well. Sale was the answer to that and after spanning 11 comics for her to make a full-appearance Marvel just tosses her aside? Like: "Here Rocket, you're not the only one. There. Now get rid of this character she's no longer important."
That's like when a studio cancels a show you like after 1 Season (Terra Nova, The River, Alcatraz, Son of Zorn) just because other people stopped watching it.
