Finally got myself around to finishing this WIP from the other day, featuring my favorite (Or at least on of them) ships from my nextgen! universe, Harmony and Allusion. Since I developed the characters, the two have had roots as very close friends, if not crushes. Harmony suffers from very deep rooted trust issues, thanks to pranks from her father, Discord, and merciless bullying as a filly due to her mismatched appearance. While to this date, Harmony does have other friends, Allusion is the only pony she really truly trusts. Allusion, a champion like of strange looking ponies and hybrids like himself and harmony, yet also intent on ensuring everypony looks the best that they can, has always doted on and empathized with Harmony. He tends to tease her a little bit as well, but gently, realizing how easily her issues can rear their ugly head if prodded the wrong way.
From this mutual friendship, a very strong bond grew, eventually blooming into something more for both of them. Harmony however always felt that it was one-sided, that she was the one who pined for Allusion, not thinking anypony, even the one closest to her, could ever find her attractive in any form. For some time Allusion could spy the hints that betrayed Harmony's feelings for him, ones that he shared. However, it wasn't until an event that brought a fresh, powerful resurgence of Harmony's most negative insecurities and despair that he admitted them to his feelings to her. Harmony had snapped and shouted, trying to steer her old friend clear of her so she could hide and wallow in her gloom - perhaps forever in some unreachable place.
"Don't shoulder all of your pain alone, I'm here for you, Mona. I'll always be here for you," He had told her, seizing her by the shoulder and lifting her head so that she met his steady gaze. He had felt his heart clench even more, seeing the distress in her eyes and the tears slipping over her cheeks, mixing with the rain. Brow creasing, he'd leaned closer, touching his muzzle to hers in a gentle kiss, trying something, anything to will the sadness away or absorb some of into himself, that his closest friend and love needn't carry it all. Harmony had stiffened for a split second, stifling the sob that she was trying to so hard to keep back, before leaning into the kiss. She'd thrown up her paws, cupping Allusion's cheeks as if her life depended on it.
Everything had still hurt, the weight of so many years of negative emotions heavy over her, but in that moment, she finally felt like she wasn't all alone.
Honestly, I am pretty bad at exposition and story writing, but there you go. Partial story, part... not. Apologies for any tense skipping around in there.
