Elitist artist are going to bitch and say you can't reference anything or that you pretty much aren't allowed to reference a pose [that they themselves did not create and that they themselves referenced = double hypocrisy].
Also it's really good to experiment with styles entirely to get a feel of what works for you and what makes you completely happy with your art! -- so learning styles even from other artists is a good thing and lots of old school artists are going to tell you to do so [with credit] whether the new internet elite artists are going to bitch and claim copying//tracing.

Fun fact: Did you know the source of one's style is actually the way the brain perceives the world around it? Essentially, this means that whatever the artist sees is translated in that way onto their given piece. And the only way to bring one's art closer to realism is through familiarity with one's subject.
That, said, I have seen some pretty blatant copy cats. Not naming names. And, when referencing someone's character for a commission, I often find myself damn near mimicking the style myself. That is not to say that referencing is bad, just that it is difficult (at least for me) to translate what is seen into one's own style.
Oh! Another tip to go with the expressions note: practice drawing different expressions at different angles. 83 makes for excellent skill progression I find

Do people do that? copy someone elses style? I'm sure they do, but it's weird to me as very little of my style is a conscious choice, more just a side-effect of how I draw, and my quirks and weaknesses as an artist. I don't think I could copy someones style if I the time I tried to create an alt I was outed almost immediately cus of my style.
