Haha, it took five pictures of Charizard for people to notice I was omitting the tail flame. In all honesty, I don't care for it. I'd rather omit it and let 'zard enjoy a good swim then have him worried that a little flame holds a vice on his life. But oh well, I put it in to be accurate.

I think the games actually say the tail is more of a barometer for his condition rather than the very source of his life, and the whole idea of it being what keeps him alive is just an inaccuracy on the anime's part, among other things like rhyhorn's horn making him vulnerable to electricity.
I keep mentioning this but people honestly don't care. A missing flame is one of those things they keep pointing out for whatever reason, even if it's beating a dead horse by now. For me, it's on the same level as the "It's very effective" comments you inevitably find on every Pokemon related picture.
