This is a side view of the book-of-shadows that I made for my friend Alyn at work. The view from the side is to show off the vine-scripting down the spine, which says his name, as does the script on the front around the pentacle. It contains 12 sheaves with a total of 480 pages.

That's my third patchwork book that I've made. The first one I made years ago and gave away to someone as a gift. The second one was a trade I did with someone a few months ago, and then this one which I was commissioned to make. I've made lots of smaller ones and one that was fairly large, but they were made from single pieces.
Thanks :) I've had several people nudging me to make lots of them and sell them, but I'm not sure how to go about it, since I like to customize them individually for their future owners. Making lots of them that are just alike seems to somehow... detract from their initial value I'd think. But, *shrugs* I'm very sentimental about things that are made personally for people. If I do start making lots of things, etsy will be the place for me :)
X3 You're right, it would. [snugs] I'm gonna bawl the day that my BoS is finished, 'cause I love it so much and it means finding another. >.< (I've got one idea in mind, which is a black one with a blue glass eye in the center of a raised pentacle (similar to the witches' moon website's design) and another eye on the spine, and some sort of phrase in Tanaziran in copper somewhere on it. >0< They quoted me at $235, which is a pipe dream.
How do you get so good at making books. OxO
(I've been eyeing the kind that have inner-papers and hard covers and apparently there's stitching done, then glue, then the interior paper done to the spine/hard covers, etc - but how the heck would I do that? Same pseudo-stitch I did on yours, or is it done differently [one site mentioned you stitch in the center and end in the center? ?_?;; ]? And for that matter, I've no idea how to make a clean pair of covers on the interior side, unless the inner-papers on the inside of the cover go on top of the leather... )
*ambles off pondering to himself*

The first book that I made for someone was stitched leather with paperboard going around the inside and then the first pages glued to the interior sides. It didn't turn out too well and you can't open the book very far either. However, leather can be sculpted into shape, which is what I did with yours and this new one to make them maintain their book-like shape when closed. The first book I made would open part way and just sit there if you didn't bind it closed. It's a learning experience :)
