Ok, I knew that many species of snakes climb trees. But I was not aware that black rat snakes were one of them.

That tree is straight, the snake really is climbing it. This was taken in York county, Pennsylvania.

Love your Avatar. Thankfully, there are no seriously poisonous snakes, here in south central Pennsylvania. We only have two, that are poisonous: the copperhead, who has a bite that is rarely lethal, although quite painful; and the water moccasin, a bit more dangerous, but also not normally life ending.
