I had decided last week that I was going to try and make another polyp tf drawing from mixed references and/or scratch, but it took me a while to decide on who should be in it. While trying to look up references for different characters to see if one struck my fancy, I remembered someone over on DA mentioning this anime I'd seen years ago. Well, seen bits of anyway. Petite Princess Yuushi, which is apparently based off a game called Princess Maker. I started looking for references and found that there's an episode where Yuushi becomes a mermaid temporarily. And as soon as I saw that, it was decided. So, this is if that episode had ended on a darker note. And had been part of the Disney universe, or at least involved in a Kingdom Hearts style cross-over.
My backgrounds are getting better, I think. Certainly, they are getting more detailed. This composites several elements from screenshots taken of the mermaid episode of the show. Unfortunately, all the scenes underwater were really blurry, so a lot of those elements are not super clear when translated to this image. I did my best, but the background is still a bit lacking in detail. Oh, well.
Ursula is a composite of a couple of different images I found, though her tentacles are all drawn myself, as none of the references I could find really had her tentacles in the pose I wanted.
Yuushi is drawn from a reference pose by Cecaeliafanatic over on DA (http://cecaeliafanatic.deviantart.com ), combined with references drawn from screenshots from the show. I think it turned out pretty well. I'm actually super pleased with her eyes, but, alas, I drew her at a really small size, so there was no way I could make her big enough to really show them off without making the whole pic an absurd size. It's kind of already an absurd size as it is. But I didn't want to draw her any bigger because I wanted to have her shrunk down quite a ways in this mid-tf point. If people want, I may do an image that's just Yuushi so people can see her more clearly.
I may also do a follow-up to do Yuushi in full polyp form. All depending on how much time I have and whether or not I feel like moving on to something else. So far, all of my mix reference tfs have been polyp tfs, and I'd like to see if I can't do some good mix ref tfs into other animals.
