"Look, I do know how this is supposed to go. I'm sure you want to rescue your friend; 'real heroes stick together,' 'nobody gets left behind,' all of that stuff. You're supposed to make a final last attempt at rescue, and either save your friend or go out in a blaze of glory. It's tradition.
"Here's the thing: I heard you two on your way in. I heard the way she talked to you. And maybe I'm just imagining it, but it didn't seem like she respected you all that much. She certainly didn't seem to appreciate the fact that without a good healing mage like you backing her up, she'd probably have gone down to the first monster she tried to fight. So the question I think you need to ask yourself: is she worth the risk to rescue?
"Because I think we both know how it would end. I'm sure you'd try your best, but you're not a fighter, and I'm immune to most magicks. If your warrior friend couldn't best me even with your support, it's pretty clear what would happen if you tried to attack me by yourself.
"All I'm saying is, I'm already full. Yeah, if you want, we could continue this thing to the bitter end; I'm sure I could squeeze another meal in if I had to. But we also could just call this whole thing off here. You seem pretty nice, and I wouldn't mind if you wanted to just hang out and chat for a while. I don't get company all that often.
"In the end, it's up to you. What's your decision?"
A quick sketch done on my phone! I've been wanting to draw Tess again for a while. I think the moral is clear: DPS, respect your healers. They might just abandon you if you don't.

strangely I can see some mages taking the stop and chat option. Though that may be me experience with role play mages. Fighter treating you like crap when you are the healler. just sit back and have a drink when the druid turns into a t-rex and eats them cause the kept pissing on the magic users.
Stuff like that happens way to often.
EDIT: also I can see a more chaotic healer just healling their friend and slowing things down.

even better when the white mage follows the codes of a doctor and goes "do no harm".... man I have to wonder what an actual doctor would have to deal with in your worlds. like I can see a pred going to one because they ate their friend by mistake. just imagine that reaction. (can see the sphinx you drew a few times doing that)
