I was making progress on my serious SUPERverse story "Fire Fox" not too long ago, but then my "interests" suddenly skewed back in the other direction, as they tend to do. So, since my motivations were back in this area of cubs and padded undergarments, I decided to do some work on Mighty O's! It's been a while since I did a chapter -- more than 6 months, in fact -- so I figured it was overdue. ^^
In just chapter/issue #2 here, we already see our new protagonists developing and discovering their powers! But how did they get them, why did they have them, and why did they wear off so quickly?
So this chapter is a MUCH better representation for what the rest of the story will be like. Since the cubs have been made a little more coherent, it's a little easier to define their personalities. As you've seen here, Ben's the energetic, carefree, and reckless one...Patricia's the shy, reserved, and cautious one...and Theo's a good middle ground between them, and he also has a heart of gold.
I'll advise readers to not overthink their increased intelligence, though. The only reason it was done was to make the cubs a tolerable focus for the story, or in other words, so readers could stand to listen to them. Childlike innocence is a BIG aspect of this story, and I didn't want to compromise that.
As you've seen, this is a permanent upgrade for the cubs, while the actual powers are merely temporary. It didn't feel right to constantly grant and take back slightly-elevated intelligence, but perhaps that's a concept we'll return to in a later story.
I'm trying to move this story along fairly quickly, and I think it will have a slightly shorter length compared to the 30+ chapter count "S.U.P.E.R." and "Fire Fox" seem to be reaching. In any case, I hope people are enjoying it so far and continue to as it progresses!
I may or may not be introducing the eventual villain of this story in the next chapter of this, so stay tuned!
Welcome to another Phase One origin story and the third “corner” of our SUPERverse: “Mighty O’s”!
We realize the last thing this universe needs right now is another story with this kind of content, but we’d like to think “Mighty O’s” will still be unique and different enough to catch your attention.
As the SUPERverse's Chronology currently stands, it can be simply broken down into 4 primary areas of focus, or "corners". The first is the S.U.P.E.R. team and some yet-to-be-introduced factions, Fire Fox and IntraNet are the second, and another is yet to be introduced in story format. The characters within "Mighty O's", however, will be the third corner, largely keeping to themselves until a few Phases in the future, if and when we get to that point.
We want to encourage reading these separate facets of our overall universe, because knowing their ins and outs will make their later collisions all the more worthwhile. But if it's the ultimate collision that finally brings you to look back on a certain area of focus, then that's okay too!
Another fun fact about this story is that it can be traced far back to perhaps my first planted ideas of a superhero universe. Back when I was a kid, I used to have dreams about a small group of babies who would eat a Spaghetti-O’s type food and gain incredible abilities. “Mighty O’s” is heavily based on these dreams! Granted, I will be changing a few things so it can properly fit within my established universe. The most important change is the power set our heroes will be obtaining, which will be drastically different from the dreams’ version, where they simply grow macro. Still, I’m excited and anxious to reveal this deeply-rooted concept and implement it into this universe!
No matter which side of the demographic scale you lean towards, fun is the name of the game with this story. Either way, I’m fairly certain you’ll find something fun and enjoyable about “Mighty O’s”!
I will be trying to start every chapter title in this arc with the word “Mighty”, and to have every second titular word rhyme with “O’s”. We’ll see how long I can keep that up, though. Do let me know if it gets old. X3
