It was a an unusually cold March night with a rain storm brewing in the darkness.
After a long and stressful night, deep in the hour arrived Frith, a brown furred kit. In the first moment when 18 year old Hana saw him for the first time, suddenly all of her fear, anxiety, and sadness seemed to disappear.
A little later after settling down a bit and finally holding him calmly wrapped in a blanket she begins to whisper in his folded ears as she tears up. "Hello, little one. You, you're so beautiful."
From the time she learned she was going to be a mother to this moment Hana feared of how much her life would change. Hana believed that she was not fit to be a mother at all, especially considering her young age and the fact that she could barely sustain herself. Her life certainly would not be the same anymore. Despite having months to adjust to the idea, it was hard on her.
Yet somehow none of that seemed to matter nearly as much anymore. The negative weight fell off her shoulders, replaced by a positive outlook.
"Life is not easy... I don't know how but... we will take life step by step, together always... I will never leave your side, my little rabbit." She kisses him, "You're mine."
The midwife nurse enters the room with a soft knock, "How is everyone doing tonight?"
Hana wipes a tear, "Oh hi, everything's ok."
"You are quite exhausted, young lady, I recommend you get some rest."
"Yes, I am but... I don't want to let him go yet."
"Hehe, please don't worry. He will be in good, safe hands. And you will feel better to nurse him once you awake."
"Alright..."
"Have you decided on his name yet?"
"Yes, his name will be Frith."
I would like to add that I am not simply imagining these words up. I actually did a little looking up and research of new mothers and their personal thoughts and feelings they go through. A few of these words are literally what came out of their mouths.
And yay for baby Frith! Though I might have made him a tad too small. Baby rabbits are called kits btw, short for "kittens". Go figure~
