So, I've been wanting to work with wood for a long while. And I wanted a sort of side hobby that is more workshop than most of what I do. I thought, "Where would I start?"
Rings! It's a hobby that I could probably end up making a lil money on too...
I want to end up making like... "Ring of Protection +1" rings XD I think it'd be fun to tie in some of the ring work into pathfinder and D&D.
Maybe even a ring of inflation >:3
It was my birthday today, so I splurged on a some different woods and a couple small tools.
I wanted to make my foxie Aerak a ring :)
This particular ring is made of redheart wood and mahogany. No stains of any kind, only touched up with olive oil and some wax!

These are solid wood, right? Not like the bent wood ones?
There's a lot of different things that one could ask for, I think I'd be looking for a dark color, not really black though... maybe the red heart like on the picture here but with a dark middle band? I've seen "purple heart" wood, but it always looks like it's been dyed in the block forms I've seen...

Correct. These are solid wood. I could try making something with the walnut. I've been treating my rings with olive oil and wax. The olive oil really brings out the color, but it seems to darken a bit too. I have a theory that the walnut may turn quite a bit darker :)
I really like working with wood :)
It's pretty amazing and the coolest feeling when you start to buff out the wood and really see the natural look of the material. It's crazy to think something this beautiful just grows naturally all around us and most don't even realize :P
