Been a while since I posted anything. Truth is, I've done quite a lot of things, but I always forget to post them, and I also don't finish some of what I do.
Anyway, this is Usagi Miyamoto, from the comic Usagi Yojimbo (and a guest character in most TMNT cartoons, which is where I've learned of him).
I tried rendering first in grayscale and then coloring it, but I'm not sure how it turned out.
I also practiced a bit of scenery, but I still have lots to learn!
As always, any advice or criticism is appreciated!

I personally think it turned out wonderfully! The balance tones of shades is superb. They're soft when it comes to transmission from light to shade, while at the same time they're more prominent when defining the details on his upper torso and face without being too harsh. Same thing with the lights; I also like how gently it hits him as he looks at the sunset. Because he loves nature, it's like nature is returning the gesture, as the gentle breeze embraces him from behind. Your work with lineless anatomy is very well executed. His face has a composed persona with what seems to be a hint of determination. His eyes are soft and gentle while his brows seem to slant slightly downward towards the bridge of his nose. You feel like he's looking at more than just the setting sun, but also towards future challenges and obstacles that await him, while thinking about the friends and loved ones he has made on the way. His expression and body language say to me," I am at peace with myself and prepared to take on the days to come."
I did see some tiny slip ups here and there but nothing too drastic. For example, they're seem to be two blotches in the space between the top and middle left abdomen muscles. Then on the bicep on his left arm, the skin color seems to trail of just a smidgen into the background. Also the shading beneath Usagi's left pectoral (not the shadow from the sash) just before it goes up to make the crevice defining his chest seems a tad harsh compared to the rest of the shading. I suggest softening it just a little. And finally, Usagi has a crescent shaped scar over his left eye, but that entirely optional if you want to do it or not.
All in all, a marvelous piece of work of a marvelous character! I hope you found my criticism helpful.
(Side note: I like it how the shadow of the sash around his neck fades off as it moves further away from the body.)

I'm very glad you commented with such helpful criticism!
I was trying a variety of stuff on this work, so I wasn't sure all it all came out, but seeing someone's opinion is very reassuring.
I still need to do a lot of studies on light, colors & blending, and sometimes I overdo it on some parts, hence the two blotches and the harsh shadows under his pectoral.
I also completely missed the scar! Such a shame, it would really have helped define that part of the head which is a bit bland I think.
All in all, thank you for your criticism, it really made my day!
