Saw this French animation called Sahara a couple days ago. It was OK I suppose. But for all the flat characters and lazy story, there's also Ajar and Eva. If you know me well enough you should know I have a soft spot for cute animated animal romance and OMFG JUST LOOK AT THESE ADORABLE SNAKES MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT AS IF I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SHIPS ALREADY AAAAAAAAAAAARRGHHHHH
...So here's some fanart for the movie probably nobody but the French even know about. It's on Netflix's atm if you're interested though :-3

You dont say : D the whole end conflict resolved in less than 10 minutes, and for some reason every goddamn character ended up wooing someone?? At least they themselves admitted the rushed ending, so maybe they're planning on a sequel or something. In that case, awesome! We need more snake kissing.
And thanks ^^
And thanks ^^
B: Welcome to the club! :D Glad to see another artist making fanart of these two.~
So sad that the characters ended up wasted in a mediocre plot, but at least they were really nice to look at! You can tell they put a lot of effort in their designs and getting their animation right. If only the had worked as hard in the script, hehe.

Well damn, glad you like it~ Your piece was actually one of the reasons I ended up watching the movie in the first place! Sparked my, uhhhh, shipper instinct. That and it ominously loomed all over Netflix last week...
They must've focused most of their budget on the art department; and probably getting Omar Sy on board. Then again the director did also write the story and the screenplay and this was his directional debut... no wonder it was so lacking in both direction and writing xD

I'd rather watch that honestly, not just that I'm one of the few who likes that
one as much as the first (but I admit it serious flaws in the writing like the first.)
Even if I didn't like it I could say Rio 2 at least tried.
And while the plot was an absolute mess (especially with the climax) at least it
was trying to explore some mature ideas and was surprisingly subtle at times, at least it tried to entertain us,
at least that had an actual romance with actual chemistry and development that I bought and made me enjoy the couple and want to see them stay together,
At Rio 2 got me to laugh on several occasions,
At least you tell they were really trying from the wonderful music and the beautiful
animation with all the great facial expressions and how you could follow the whole plot on mute
and tell every emotion the characters had because they tried that hard and were that skilled. At least you got to see more of the
Brazilian culture and the country's issues, and at least
there were surprising a large chunk of the cast who gave some really enjoyable voice acting (albeit with the ever annoying tulio and pedro returning)
and establishing your villains before the end of the film.
At least the two ungodly annoying characters were pushed to the side and not the hero's two cohorts.
Sahara on the other-hand, forgot that you need things like: Character development, scenes that go somewhere and affect the plot, Show don't tell, and at least
attempting to hide things you blatantly stole from other movies.
O guess what, that old guy who was just sort of there? Guess what he's the villain! And the films almost over!
Those other snakes in the basket, boy was that necessary to see, and I'm so glad we spent all that time we Eva,
I'm sure that gave us such insight, boy could the film have not done without it.
And I'm so glad we had that scene with the traveling snails, wasn't that so meaningful?
Gotta love learning nothing about the Sahara or it's many cultures and countries.
Boy, this guy I nothing about who trekked across the desert to save me is more worthwhile than the pompous but kind guy
I actually got to know and form an actual relationship with!
P.S. I don't mind the idea of a sequel because while Sahara offers next to nothing outside of some pretty animation,
it wasn't really rage inducing, and at least a second installment could give us say... An actual plot with characters deeper than copy paper.
And if it fails there wasn't really much of a bar to jump over to begin with.

tbh I only liked the film because of the Snakes x) Great premise but poor execution, as per usual with these smaller animation features.
I did watch another more obscure animation last week, Rock Dog (a Chinese/American production), which really nails everything Sahara got wrong... except maybe the animation. It didn't have romance or snakes, but it did have actually well-rounded characters who really develop along the plot, stellar voice-acting and a plot that goes somewhere. And rock music, of course. I may be kinda biased considering the subject matter, but I'd say it's a worthwhile watch no matter your music preferences :3

P.P.S.
After hearing all the talk that Rio 2 was just Meet the Parents, I checked that movie out that see
if the criticisms were valid.
While I can see the set ups as similar, there is a difference in execution.
Rio 2 the issue of Blu getting the approval to be with Jewel is never an issue with anyone,
Blu is trying to impress Eduardo is so he can be accepted as a member of the tribe, and impress
everyone else because he feels has to fit in with society and be there for his family. And the conflict
is Blu's relationship with Jewel and the clash of New vs Old especially with the Tribe's prejudice to Blu and humans. (Nigel is just there at the side.)
So I can safely say no, Rio 2 is not copy pasting Meet the Parents plot.
I can say that Meet the Parents copy pastes every single awful Rom Com and Cheap Comedy cliche, with a bunch of other shit you're sick of seeing,
wrapped neatly up in a infuriating little package of: "Tee Hee! Aren't Socially Awkward Neurotic people hilarious in how they never do anything right?!"
Which is every FUCKING JOKE IN THE FUCKING FILM? ((Btw, as a person with Autism Fuck You Meet the Parents) Thank god for people like Blu and that Elephant from Sing
to give people with these issues proper justice.))
I'd rather Bingewatch Rio 2 a thousand times than suffer through Meet the Parents again.
