An inked and colored version of a sketch I uploaded a while ago. I don't know why I keep drawing bears who look upset. I guess I just like playing with their expressions and emotions. I like this guys expression a lot. This is only my second attempt at coloring a picture, and I think it came out ok, if a little dry and uninteresting. There's only so much I can do without a tablet, what can I say? I really struggled a lot with the shading and I know it's far from perfect, so if someone wants to give me a few pointers on what I did wrong I'd love to hear from you. Other than that, thanks for checking it out!

The way some people think of bears now, they have reasons to look disturbed! His irises are cool. The small pulpils lend to that Scared/ surprised look. One thing that bugs me,is his eyes looks they are "pouring out from under his eye lids. Bottom lids would fix that! The nose is slanted up a little too much from the left or maybe it's the top part of the muzzle. You gave him a decent neck and a wonderful chest! Animals with erect ears don't hesitate to fold them down when they are scared, really pissed, submissive, being petted on the head! The squareish look of head makes him more bearish. It's a good thing you didn't give him a big fore head! He does look male-ish. Having said all this, don't get mad if tell you I don't draw! I can, but you would kick my ass any day! I do look art all the time. Cartoons, art, real animals, and those "find at least ten things different between these two pictures"! Sorry I ramble a lot!
Hey, thank you so much for your comments! I hadn't even thought about it, but you're right, he does need bottom eyelids. That's a great observation. Maybe I'll try to re-tool those in there sometime. The nose IS slanted a bit much, but I think the slant helps define the expression a bit. If you curl up just one side of your upper lip, your nose tends to slant a little. I like the irises too, but I kinda feel like they don't fit in with the rest of the piece because they have so much color and detail and the rest of it is just flat colors. They were fun to make anyways. I hadn't thought about the pupils either, but again you're right. They're kinda small, which in this case works because it fits the expression, but I wouldn't have thought about it if his expression was more neutral. I do like putting really thick necks on my creatures. I guess it just makes them look more masculine and smexy. Skinny pencil necks make them look like Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse. Are you saying the ears need to go down further, or they look good where they are? Thanks again for all your comments and don't worry about weather or not you draw. You obviously have a good eye for details and picked out some important things I missed. I really appreciate it!
The ears are fine where they are. I'm glad you like drawing your characters with a thick neck too. Those other characters you mentioned, yea their necks are too skinny. It's no wonder they can swallow or speak at all! Some people draw characters without necks at all! I can't think of any right now. Garfield! That's one of them! Most (i guess) think bears only have three fingers! Irl, they have five fingers on each paw and feet as well. I lol when when I see one drawn with 4 fingers and 2 toes! On animation I guess they do that to save on animation time and money. Animals can manipulate their muzzle in many different ways. I used to remember how many muscles they had that made the muzzle so flexible. I have a book on drawing cartoon characters that I found at a flea market. The author is some famous guy that helped with the design of the fantashia characters. I thumb through some of the pages. The book is serious! I have 4 four German Shepherds. I have several books on them that explain what judges look for in a dog's appearance, walk, behavior. I like animals but love bears the most! I've got carvings.sculptures, pictures, paintings, nick nacks, blab blab blab! My house actually looks like a bear lives there! No wonder I joined F.A.! I'll watch you! Won't ramble too much next time! Your colored sketch pulled me in. Uncolored sketches are hard on my eyes. Thanks!
