I got the chance to get up close to some ducks, and snapped off some photos. Here's a male Mallard duck.

also, ive noticed with a few submissions from others, that if an image is a little busy, or has too many things going on, converting it to black and white tends to make it look cleaner. there aren't so many colours and shades in the viewer's face.
as for sepia tone, i dont think ive ever shot that before. mainly because i cant think of a situation where it would benefit the shot. im not sure what sepia tone does in terms of attaching mood to the photo.
perhaps you could enlighten moi? ^^

Black and white is great for when you want to capture sharp detail, because it's usually better at showing contrast than color is. You can often pick up fine details in a black and white photo that you'd miss in color. I love it for that. And for the way it can be used to portray age, or cold in a photo.
Sepia is kinda' the same was as black and white, though it's main feeling is warmth, it usually involves warm tones, and also is good for giving a photo that 1800's old timey feel.
Outside that, sometimes I just like shooting in them. Not so much because I feel they're better than color at every given instance, but just because I personally like them. As with most thigns artsy, sometimes it's more about what you want to portray, or the feeling you're trying to provide, than the actual accurate recording of data.
