Saving the true power for last. The king of the jungle... that is martial arts.
This guy's got a kickass design and you did a magnificant job adapting it. The mane fits really well with his concept, a worthy crown for the conqueror of heaven. Guess that's why they added one to his official design!
I still prefer your version though. Really stresses his aura of power. A literal aura, in this case. Even the symbol is floating with sheer energy. ^^
The pose is simple, but strong. Like he's prepared for everything. Feet well grounded and in balance.
On the footpaw side, I love those defined ankles. Wanna touch them so bad. Same with the rest of the paw, really. You know what a sucker I am for two-tone feet.
On that note, I can't help but notice his pads are not pink! Brown and tough, huh? Not a sensitive inch on this guy.

While it is mostly likeable, I find that the aura is mostly a glow. Even if it is a little too anime for anyone's tastes, the aura Akuma is supposed to emit is a "Ki" shaped aura. Energy that strings off the body and travels upwards. Its actually shown in the Dragonball Series, mostly in Dragonball and earlier parts of Dragon Ball Z.
But to be specific, a glow can only do so much. Real measurements and feelings of power come from other characters expressing how much power they can feel from Akuma, and whether or not it shocks or excites them is a choice. Without expressions a need for ground a good measurement. Whether its from dust or debris puffing out from the character's position to the ground near them shaking and little pebbles floating in the air from the sheer amount of power or larger chunks of rock come undone from the earth itself and floating around. If a choice was made without those then Ki sparking around a character's body is also fine. But how much is up to the artist and how they perceive the character they are drawing. Also the Kanji doesn't really float but its suppose to actually be on his back. But it doesn't change that I like it regardless.
Even though this is how I see it, despite going to the lower level of observing with an outside eye, the most I feel from a Akuma in terms of how much power he has is merely "warmth" from what I see here. But I know what he is perfectly capable of. But its not wrong that he does have a red glow around him occasionally in official artwork, along with a blood moon in the background.
Tekken does excellently with how they conceived types of Aura in Tekken 6. Aura is a glow around the body with a little more style, more than just this, no offense to Footpaws! Just saying, While Ki rises upwards. And if you go Naruto then its almost like Aura from Pokémon. It looks like a blue fire but with a sort of...cloudy look to it entirely.
I love Akuma, and I like to play him, though in SFV I don't think I can. It seems very arcade stick oriented with how the combos are executed. So I love this just as much, though I can't imagine Akuma would have sensitivity, it would throw off all of his character that he made himself. So use to that strict and wide-ish frown.

I have a couple of simple responses to this.
Firstly there is no physical background so puffs of real smoke and floating rocks are out of the question!
The kanji on Akuma's back isn't attached to his clothing. Its a magical symbol that often appears in some manor either above of behind him (if it was attached then it would follow the creases of his Gi!)
And lastly the glow is not really his Ki but a replacement background choice design much like I have done with other characters.. Not part of the character himself as seen in my group picture where he has no glow http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23645928/
I hope this clears up some of the design choices I made!
I'm glad you have a strong focus on keeping Akumas design faithful to his SF representation. Not many people care about that sort of stuff so its actually refreshing to hear.
The reason his inputs feel like they belong on a competitive Arcade Stick is because SFV is a Sony exclusive title. This means its hard pulling off moves on Sonys badly designed D pad which hasn't got distinctive enough input feedback (too squishy for old school fighting mechanics). If you could use an XBox One controller alternative then Im almost certain it would feel much better. But sadly this isn't the case!

Ngaaaa, while it does I only listed examples, while I am perfectly happy with this, I couldn't help but say at least a bit of something.
Actually that Kanji is quite literally on his back. https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.ne.....20140327183511
They can't quite show it properly in the games or rather Akuma actually can turn the Kanji on and off, which is also what my Typh can do with the markings on his face as seen in my icon! Though...I can't lie...he...does have Kanji like Akuma when using power. Though in particular states of types of power. But by default my Typh has a Kanji on the back of his Kimono as to represent the martial artist he was under. As it is his Teacher's mark, sort of like how Goku wore the "Turtle" on his orange Dogi as to represent the Turtle School or the Turtle Hermit Roshi. Not to say his teacher is bad though. I used Heavenly for a slightly better reason, meaning not for evil or Akuma-ish purposes. BUT, if its alright to use, Typh does actually fight like akuma, aggressive, controlling, vortex-y. But without being a glass cannon (in the games at least).
I care quite a deal about small details and faithful design, but I let it go so that people don't look at me as a neat freak or a person who doesn't want others to have fun or just...awkward. It tends to be that way around others. And I am surprised you had a positive outlook on that! And I really appreciate that. ;v;
Also its not that, I just see akuma's half circle movement in the middle of his combo and its his "counter" special that can also be activated and it looks....not quite fun. Also yes it is not the case with that...I want to play SFV and have fun though. ;v;
