First part of a series commissioned by  hyenafur.

In Daniel's sophomore year, to fill out his elective course schedule he takes on a Serbo-Croatian language class, which is taught by an air national guardsman by the name of Karl Tomašević Katić.

I'd never even seen a brown hyena before, so this was an interesting exercise in research, as well as in aging Daniel a tiny bit. (I think it's going to be hard for anyone to distinguish any visible age difference in him underneath the inevitable changes in my style in the years since ASB, but you're welcome to humor me. :P )

I wouldn't consider any of this series to be "canon", but then there's nothing in it that's out of character or disrupts the storyline, so who knows...
