There once was a king who had many daughters. The king did not love his daughters as he should have, for he had wanted a boy with which he could teach the ways of a man. As revenge against their existence, the king gave his daughters away with minimal care. The first daughter was wed to an unloving prince, and died alone and neglected in a tower. The second daughter was forced to flee to far off deserts where she was forced to give up her whole identity to survive. The third was sold to a slave master for a mere forty gold coins and a horse bridle. The fourth was encouraged to wander into the wilderness without a guard, and was forgotten. When the king attempted to wed off his fifth child, though, she balked.
"All my sisters have perished at your negligence and I shall not follow them!" she declared, "I will not go where you wish, nor wed who you say!"
The king was upset with this and had the girl ruined. Her hair was cut and yanked out in handfuls, and her lovely face marred by acid and cuts.
"Foolish thing!" the king bellowed. "You are worth less than a beast to me and act like one, too! For your disobedience, you shall be showed off as a beast and be paired with one as well!"
From then on the fifth daughter was locked in her room, though her wooden door was replaced with a barred one so that any one could look in when they wished. A frightful beast was brought in from the gladiator stock to be her crude companion. But upon beholding the fifth daughter's scars and misery, the beast instead took pity on her, nursing her back to health and showing her kindness instead. They became friends, and while the daughter became a little more bestial in manner, the beast gained some humanity in return. Thus they lived together, planning and dreaming of a day when they could escape and be free.
Another imperfect human X monster sketch I finally got around to completing.
