Because he seems to get smarter every time he has eaten a book. And every piece of paper that appears in his litter box sooner or later seems to be blank or devoid of letters at least. Where else could they have been vanished to if they didn't feed a curious and really hungry mind?

Poor Archie. He surely will miss his books. But maybe Bara could resore the knowledge somehow. Similar to how kids love to write their names in yellow letters in the snow. Maybe, if Bara practices a bit and drinks enough amounts of ink he might restore Archies library the next time he goes onto the papers. Without practice he just would create Rorschach tests.
