This was a commissioned image that I made for somebody who wanted a
picture of his character fighting off mindflayers, or whatever they were called
in the old TSR scifi rpg. That will mean nothing to some of you :)

Anyway, I made the image, and then never heard back from the guy who
wanted it. I held onto it for years and tried to reach him, but eventually
I donated it to the Anthrocon Charity Auction one year and that was that.

I like the composition, though the tonal value is a little uniformly busy.
If you take all the color away, you get the same buzz of grey all over, which
makes it a little hard to untangle what's going on. I think if I were going to
do it again, I'd have the main guy be much darker than the background
stuff. Also the cityscape in the back should be much -much- lighter to
account for atmospheric perspective. I had some innate instinct for this
because I made it pastel blues, but I didn't really understand how it works
because the blues are too dark really. More Goines "poster" effects.
