He's so big and powerful looking, yet the pose is very passive, still - and that gaze is sort of benevolent and curious. It's a bit like he's waiting there and wondering what the viewer's impression of those soles will be. Well I think they're very amazing. ^_^ They look warm and welcoming, tough, yet soft.
