BTW many ask me where I got these photo images well I used my Canon digital camera then place my Kenner Star Wars toys on top of some color poster papers that you can fine at any Walmart store for a set of 5 color posters for $5 buck. Just to recreate that original Kenner Star Wars box art photo.
Released in 1978, Kenner’s TIE Fighter was one of the original 3 ¾” action figure vehicles released. It was released along with the X-Wing Fighter, Land Speeder, Death Star Play Set, as well as the JC Penney exclusive Radio Controlled Land Speeder and the Sears exclusive Cantina Adventure Set. Later '78 releases featured a yellow Special Offer sticker advertising the inclusion of two figures: a Stormtrooper and Darth Vader.
In 1979 Kenner renamed the toy the 'Imperial TIE Fighter', and the package design dropped the blue LP (Long Play) logo seen in the '78 release. The package was refreshed once more before its production run ended in 1980, replacing the Star Wars logo with The Empires Strikes Back logo.
Oddly, the toy was made of bright white plastic. A dull gray would have been truer to the TIE Fighters seen in the first film, but Kenner chose white. Consequently, loose TIEs are often yellowed. It also featured a semi-interesting "battle damage" feature, which caused the side panels to pop off at the touch of two buttons. And then there was the standard "whining" laser sound. The above catalog description says the little red light on the front is "dramatic," but it's not-- it's just a little red light. But that's ok; it was the '70s, and a little red light was better than no light at all.
