The difference in colour you see around the eyes is partially due to the warm lighting I added (It makes it harder to see the white that is there! XD).
But also, eagle owls' eyeballs are huge - like giant orbs! And the giant lens of the eye sticks out from the face of the bird. Because of this, you wouldn't see as much white anyway!
I'm struggling to find a good reference on Google, but if you like, I can take a photograph of one of our eagle owls at work to show you what I mean if it doesn't make sense! c:

LOL! Yeah, I am a keeper and falconer at a bird centre. I focus mainly on the birds of prey, including our owls, hawks, falcons, eagles, and so forth. :)
