Endless Realms bestiary - Leatherback Slug
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
In contrast to the big epic angels and demons I've done lately, we now have... a slug 8D The art director requested three low level creatures that could be found in swamps, and suggested a giant slug with possibilities as a ridable mount, although you'd have to be awfully patient to want to ride one I'd have thought... Anyway, I figure these guys are pretty non-aggressive, just a big slug going about its business, but will eat just about anything if you don't stop it :V Sort of like goats, but slower? XD
I think my aesthetic tastes have been twisted having worked on monsters for so long - is it just me, or is this guy actually kinda cute? :V I actually used to hate slugs as a kid, creeped me out :b

For big slugs, they look harmless at first glance. However, when you mentioned that they'll eat anything, would that include metal or anything enchanted? Imagine getting ambushed by a bunch of slugs falling right on top of your party. Not only can they not move, they're getting eaten upon and getting their equipment ruined...by slugs. Must be terrifying for those who are afraid of them :).
*chuckles* Yeah, that was my idea - they can eat just about anything if they have the chance! Normally harmless, but in the right (wrong?) situation could definitely be problematic :b The slug eats all your gear in the middle of the night, and then you wake up defenseless with something sucking on your leg :V
Imagine the scene now: In the middle of an enchanted forests, one female party member screams out of terror over the slugs not only eating their gear, but are now tasting the members themselves. An ambush party who unleashed the slugs upon the unsuspected party wait silently amused, pondering whether they should now attack or enjoy the hilarious frantic scene.
Hey, wait a minute, I think we have the start of a new campaign here...

Yeah, in a way, I find "stuff I don't like but other people do" sort of inherently interesting for that very reason, ironically.
Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Just had to work with some big files this week (a brutal 9GB PSD, mostly :V) and run Dropbox a lot for hours on end, and my computer really wasn't happy at all, so I had to close down everything else running that I could to try to help it along.

Wow..... only Adobe could make a file format inefficient enough that 2D image data could consume MULTIPLE GIGS. My entire furry folder only contains 25.4 GIGs. And that's across ........... 66.6k files
This includes a large number of animation files at hundreds of megs each!

Well, now I'm intrigued. Whacha workin on?
You should post the full res image on FA
Got a little challenge for you! How about calculating how large of an image you could create using another lossless image format. I'm not talking about something that stores layer or step information. Just something decently efficient like PNG, since it's so standard. You could get fancier if you like and do something like FLIF. But how many feet would you be printing if it was in one of these formats at the same file size? That's my challenge.

I'm not going to test it out - just can't be bothered wasting the hour it would take to do it, since any transformations/edits at a file size that large takes freaking forever. Seriously, I was working on that file, and I'd tell it to do something and it'd have to re-render, and I had ten minutes to read something or go downstairs and have a coffee before I'd have to go back up and check on it.
But yeah, there were something like 30 layers in that file, with various layer effects and things being imported across from Illustrator, not just a big flat 10ftx10ft image, so that certainly didn't help.
Anyway, nothing interesting, just the logo file for Endless Realms which they needed me to modify, which unfortunately meant I had to go back to its original vector form, modify THAT, then reimport all the different parts of it into Photoshop and rebuild the logo from scratch.

I wouldn't say I'd call it cute xD They are interesting and I bet someone could use them to plow fields since all they probably would want is food. So have an open field, attach a plow, and on a few polls at certain increments would have food on them to keep them going. Otherwise I could see a variant of these slugs being used as a parasite carrier. So when you kill them you have something else pop out of its gelatinous bodies to try and survive without its host.
