When I had initially sketched this out, I was watching Max Gilardi's Brain Dump episode on the Joker where he discussed the various iterations of the character including the Lego Batman version. I thought that it was interesting that there were many interations of the Joker character that I decided to draw my own version. I combined elements from Batman: The Animated Series, The Long Halloween, Jared Leto (minus the tattoos and such) and Killing Joke.
